Learn the Soft Pull & Boost Your Credit Score.

One thing that’s for certain in life is that everything always changes. Credit is no exception, and neither is credit fixing and credit repair.  Not only did we just start a new year, we started a new decade as of a few days ago and so this week I want to talk about changes that have happened with the shopping cart trick over the past year or two. The shopping cart trick is a fantastic way to create good credit even when your credit has maybe had a few challenges in the past and is not near as good as it used to be. This should never be done in lieu of fixing credit or repairing your credit, but is a fantastic way to build credit while you’re trying to fix your credit.

Who Should Use the Shopping Cart Trick

Y’all know as well as I do bad things happen to good people, and sometimes you can’t avoid some of the financial disasters of life

The Shopping Cart trick is useful for people who have:

  • Declared bankruptcy in the past and is trying to recover
  • or  if you have Defaulted on payments in the past
  • or A lot of credit inquiries been declined often
  • or perhaps you have Made late payments in the past and had their accounts closed because of this
  • or finally,  maybe you simply don’t have a credit score at all, and you’re trying to establish one.

The caveat is If they ask you to enter your whole social security number, and not just the last 4, then it will most likely be a hard inquiry. With anything mentioned in this post, your mileage may vary, so it may work for some people and not for others.

If you use this method and have defaulted on payments in the past, be sure to pay off your bills every month.

The TRICK of the Shopping Cart Trick

The shopping cart trick, also known as the soft pull trick, is a neat little Tactic that allows people with bad credit to potentially, get a credit card. The shopping cart trick relies on the fact that many websites will pre-approve you for a credit card during the checkout process without actually checking your score. This means you can get a card without a “hard pull”.

Y’all will remember that I discussed the differences between hard and soft pulls in another episode. AND, while there or NO guarantees, it also means you can still get a card with bad credit.

If there’s a trick at all to the shopping cart trick is this: were going to try to avoid hard inquiries on your credit report. So If they ask you to enter your whole social security number, and not just the last 4, then it will most likely be a hard inquiry. And this is a time of course when you’re going to want to have ads thrown your way so turn your ad blocker off in your browser.

It’s also safe to say that you should not expect high limits. A $250-$500 card is more than enough to get you going on building credit again. Typically if you do well with the card and you spend at that Cards store though increase the limit after about 3 to 6 months. Also when you use this method don’t use it more than two or three times. Finally don’t use this method more than once in any given three month period. Too many inquiries or building credit to FAST is not going to help you, it’s going to hurt you.

Before You Start

Okay before you start there’s a few things you’ve got to know if we make this work for you. First of all, you need to opt in to pre-screened offers. Now if you’ve never submitted anything to opt out you probably can skip this step; and the way to know whether you’ve done it or not is if you ever receive promotions in the mail the chances are that your opt in and that’s fine. If you want to double check that you can go to OptOutPrescreen.com. This is the first and most important step guys. This absently has to be done if the shopping cart trick is going to work.

The next thing you have to do is get your pop-up blocker and any anti-spam tools and shut them off. The offers for credit cards are only going to appear on the screen during the checkout part of your process and if your pop-up blocker is off you will be able to see the promotional offers because of course they won’t show up. I know that the pain but here’s the thing guys you could always turn it back on after you get the card or two that you want.

I’m going to say this several times because it’s so very important do not enter your full Social Security number. If you’ve done it correctly you should only have to input the last four digits of your social. If you have to enter the full social it is going to result in a hard pull and nominally will you likely get denied for the card if your credits less-than-perfect it will actually make your credit score worse because hard inquiries affect your credit score.

Here’s How it Works

Here’s how to do the exact process..

First and foremost, clear your browser history, cookies, and cash. You’ve got to do this before trying the shopping cart trick. If you’re using chrome you can also use an incognito window to bypass this step but generally speaking you should clear all that stuff out of your browser periodically anyway.

Go to the site you want and create a new account. Most the time is going to be at the top of the page. Now this is very important. You want to enter your email address, phone number, and mailing address. Be honest. You need to use the exact same information that you would find on your credit report. So for example if you just moved a month ago, that’s not the address that’s probably going to show on your credit report it will be your previous address. Also very important make sure you subscribe to their emails. I can’t say exactly why it works or doesn’t work by doing this, but I know that it works better when you subscribe for their spam mails.

Pick out a few items and put them in your shopping cart. From the feedback I get from my students hundred dollars seems to be the threshold. The range seems to be at least more than $50 but no more than hundred and $50, but again the best luck has happened right at 100 bucks maybe a few dollars more.

Continue checked out and act as if you’re going to buy all the items go to the checkout page and type in all of your billing information and remember what I said about the address being the one that shows in your credit report. Don’t get in a hurry. Again this has something to do with the algorithms but if you type everything slow enough it will trigger the pop-up.  Another quick caveat here for whatever reason using auto fill to put your info in seems to screw up the shopping cart trick. Again I’m not a programmer so I don’t know the algorithms but I had enough feedback from students that we’ve learned that we don’t use auto fill.

Now if you did all that correctly a pop-up is going to show up. If the pop-up only asks for the last four of your social then go for it you will get approved.

Important for Your “To Do” List

Now a big caveat here, you want to only  accept the offers that do not require your full Social Security number.  If they require all nine digits it’s most likely going to be a hard inquiry. Remember, we only want soft inquiries for this exercise.

The next thing is don’t buy anything. You don’t need to actually purchase anything at the store that you use this trick on. Once your application is finished and you been accepted you will automatically be taken back to the checkout page. I say that because sometimes the checkout page will close. You just abandon the cart after you’ve applied and been approved. No problem.

Now don’t get all excited and go crazy. Get one card per month maybe every other month. I’m about to show you some of the things you can do that do not involve the shopping cart trick in order to continue to build your credit. And you need to be doing these things as well as the shopping cart trick.

Also, we have mixed results with mixed browsers. Chrome seems to be the best but may or may not work for you. If you don’t get results with chrome try Firefox or Safari or one of the other browsers. And remember again to delete the cookies and cache before you start, regardless.

Guaranteed Results

Many people say that 100% approval credit cards don’t exist been my experience I have found a few that do work. Go check out Horizon Gold Card or Luxe Signature Card. Also There are always secured cards that you can get through your bank or other places. I got an episode the goes into great detail on that. Subscribe to my list and you should be able to track that down pretty easily.  Many banks offer secured credit Cards when you set up a CD or certain kinds of savings accounts. Again I got an episode dedicated to specifically to that as well.

And finally of course the shopping cart trick is never intended to be used alone. If you’re working on disputes continue on the Disputes continue any repairs are doing and of course good stewardship and good money management is absolutely key to good credit.
